Katia’s Apple Pie for Grown ups

This version of the apple pie is suitable for grown ups. I would recommend to use the filling of the pie and add it to your little one’s porridge.

You can use shortcrust pastry, this may be more soft if your little one wants to try it.

For the crust you’ll need:

500g flour

120g cold water

120g sunflower oil

100g icing sugar or you can use instead a fruit syrup you can find this is health shops it is made of apples, grapes and carob (squeeze 4-5 tablespoons)

2 tsps cremor tartar

Method:

In a bowl mix the liquid ingredients: water and sunflower oil. Add the icing sugar and mix it well.

Slowly add flour and at the end the two teaspoons of cremor tartar or raising agent you would normally use.

Let it rest in the fridge for an hour.

For the filling you’ll need:

4/5 apples (I usually cut five or six because I like the filling a lot)

Cinnamon

Dice the apples and cook them in a pan with some water and cinnamon until they soften.

Let’s assemble the pie

Take out the dough from the fridge and start to gently knead it until it becomes softer. Now divide the dough in two parts. With a rolling pin stretch the dough until you find the perfect size for your tin. Place the first half in the tin, add the filling, and stretch the second half of the dough to cover the filling.

Make some cuts on the pastry.

Bake at 180 C for 45-60 minutes depending on your oven.

Tips:

  • Store it in the fridge for a max of 2 days

  • The filling is suitable for little ones as the apples inside are well cooked, but supervision is a must when offering food to little one.

  • You can add the filling to your baby’s porridge.

  • If you are using short crust pastry, follow the instructions on the box for handling and cooking methods.

  • If you want to make it more grown up you can add inside walnuts and raisins, this VERSION is NOT SUITABLE FOR BABIES AND YOUNG CHILDREN, WHOLE NUTS ARE A CHOKING HAZARDS.

  • RAISINS ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR LITTLE ONES UNDER 18 MONTHS OF AGE, FROM 18 MONTHS ONWARD ADULT SUPERVISION IS NEEDED WHEN OFFERING RAISINS.
