Farinata

Farinata is an Italian dish, it is like a pizza but made with chickpeas flour. Chickpeas flour is also called gram flour.

Farinata is great way to include pulses /legumes in your child nutrition in another form.

Here’s the recipe- serves 8 persons

Ingredients:

  • 150g chickpeas flour

  • 300 ml water

  • 100 ml olive oil

  • Salt and rosemary to season

Method:

Mix the ingredients together. The mixture will be very liquid, no worries it meant to be like this!

Make sure no lumps are formed. Add salt.

Pour the mixture into a tray and drizzle olive oil on top, you can also add herbs such as rosemary (finely chopped) to season.

Cooking time:

It cooks for 30/40 mins at 200 C. It depends on your oven mine takes longer.

Once out of the oven leave it to cool down for few minutes. Make sure it is cooked all the way thorugh.

I usually start by making this and then get the rest of the dinner ready as it takes quite a bit.

How to serve it?

You can serve it as it is or with some cheese, with some vegetables.

I usually cut it into strips, it looks like a potato chips and serve it at mealtimes or as snack.

You can serve it as finger food to your little one.

Make sure:

It is soft enough (squidgy between thumb and index finger);

It has cooled down;

Shape of two adult fingers (lentgh and width).
